Spanish for health professionals courses

The only course approved by the Official College of Doctors of Madrid.

This course, offered at Tilde Madrid Spanish School, is unique and it was entirely created by our teachers. It is mainly aimed at doctors, although other health professionals such as nurses and assistants can also benefit from it.

For medical or health professionals: doctors, nurses... of all nationalities.

It is recommended that the student has done at least the basic level as stipulated by the European Marking System.

The Spanish course attempts to gain the most profit from the student’s efforts to learn and better their level of Spanish through medical related subjects: General vocabulary of the human body, medicines and drugs, symptoms, diagnoses, prevention of illness, common illnesses, treatments etc., as well as a general look at the Spanish Public Health System.

  • That the student would be capable of understanding and being understood in real-life situations encountered in their places of work.
  • To know basic medical related vocabulary.
  • To review the most important grammatical structures and their functions in order to communicate correctly in Spanish in a medical environment.
  • To approach the health reality in Spain.
With the strong desire to cover this hitherto neglected area of teaching Spanish to foreign students, and with increasing demand from professionals in the medical field, we’ve created this brand new course that has been the fruit of our long teaching experience and arduous work in preparation with the collaboration of medical professionals from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid.

This Spanish course is given by a professional of Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, highly experienced in teaching the language for more specific, professional ends.

The open and modular structure of the course allows the contents to be addressed according to the student's interests, requirements and needs. Although there is a proposed sequence in which to approach the course content (general terminology, prevention, illness), this by no means suggests increasing linguistic or grammatical difficulty.

Throughout the lessons there will be grammatical annotations and continual practice in order to work on the different expressive skills.

In a separate section, running parallel with the main bulk of the course there is a compendium of the most important structures and expressions, a continuous reference resource for the student.

Within the open structure of this course, with the exception of the above parallel section, which can be done at any time, there is an explanation of the Spanish Health System. In addition to its informative value, this insight provides a useful tool to put forward ideas for debate, express opinions and establish comparisons etc.

Dr. Penny Miller
Public Health Physician
This Spanish course is specifically designed for health professionals that are able to speak Spanish at a basic level that would like or need to communicate in this language at work. This course is aimed at doctors working in private or public hospitals and health centers. Although it is specifically designed for doctors, it is useful also for nurses and other health professionals.

The curse is based on the clinical process, and it covers the medical history, the diagnose, the treatment and the prevention. It is based on practical exercises, and it is able to integrate vocabulary and grammar relating them with each step of the clinical process. For example, there is a significant difference between giving opinions, advice and instructions. Everything is relevant and important for the interaction between health professionals and patients, what requires the use of the past, the imperative, the conditional and the subjunctive tenses in Spanish. Its two authors, Pilar González Manjavacas and Dolores González Martínez, are Spanish teachers with a long experience since long time ago. Dolores González Martínez is also the author of the Spanish grammar book "La gramática Lola".

It is not a course for beginners. It is required to have basic knowledge of the Spanish grammar. This means that the student needs to, at least, know how to conjugate the verbs in the past, present and future. If you are beginning to learn Spanish I recommend you that you first take a basic course before taking this specialized course. In addition to that, if you want to take full advantage of it, you should study with a teacher, because this material is not thought for self-learners, but for interactive lessons, both individually or in groups. The course lasts a total of 80 lessons, but it can be studied by sections. For example, if you only had two weeks of holidays, you could complete half of it by only 4 hours of class a day.

I truly recommend it!
